On December 1, Walmart shared that Mondelēz Global LLC, makers of beloved Ritz crackers, recalled its Ritz Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches after a serious labeling error.
The affected cartons of Ritz Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches contain individually wrapped packs that may be incorrectly labeled as Cheese Cracker Sandwiches. The products within the "cheese" wrappers are a Peanut Butter variety, so people with an allergy or sensitivity to peanuts could be at risk.
Because peanuts are among the most common food allergens in the country, this is a serious recall. Families who send kids to a peanut-free school should take note: If someone with a severe peanut allergy were to open one of the mislabeled cracker packs, the allergic reaction could be life-threatening.
How To Tell if You Have the Recalled Crackers
Mondelēz Global announced the recall after discovering 70 mislabeled cases were shipped to a limited number of retailers in eight states: Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, and Pennsylvania. Currently, Walmart is the only confirmed retailer.
This recall applies only to Ritz Peanut Butter Sandwich Crackers in 20-count cartons; no other product is affected. If you pack snacks for someone with a peanut allergy, or have an allergy yourself, pay careful attention to the packaging.

What To Do if You Have the Recalled Crackers
If you or someone in your family has a peanut allergy, throw any recalled cracker snacks away immediately. If you have questions about the recall, call Mondelēz Global at 1-844-366-1171.
The recalled crackers are safe to eat for anyone without a peanut allergy. Just be aware that your individually-packaged cheese crackers may actually be peanut butter crackers in disguise.
