Ice cream season never ends in my house. There's always a pint or a box of ice cream bars tucked in the freezer for when I need something sweet. It sparked concern when I saw not one but two ice cream recalls this week. Both Jeni's ice cream bars and Publix have pulled select products due to hidden allergens.

Here's what to know before your next scoop.

What You Need To Know

Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams issued a recall for one batch of its Passion Fruit Dreamsicle Ice Cream Bars due to undeclared wheat and soy. People with an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy and/or wheat run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they unknowingly eat the ice cream bars.

Jeni's Passion Fruit Dreamsicle Ice Cream Bars were distributed nationwide at grocery chains such as Kroger, Safeway, Target, and Whole Foods, among others. The recalled cartons can be identified using the batch code found on top of the carton: 25-210.

The recall comes after a crunch topping from a different product was inadvertently used on this batch of Passion Fruit Dreamsicle Ice Cream Bars. The crunch topping contains two major allergens, wheat and soy, which are not declared on the label.

To request a refund, return the ice cream bars to the place of purchase. If you have questions, contact Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams at 614-488-3224 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or by email at [email protected].

What You Need To Know

Publix recalled its house brand Publix Rich & Creamy Vanilla Ice Cream because it contains a hidden allergen: eggs. Publix Rich & Creamy Vanilla Ice Cream half-gallon containers contain Publix Rich & Creamy French Vanilla Ice Cream. The recalled containers have a mismatched French Vanilla lid. People with an allergy or sensitivity to eggs may run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they eat this ice cream.

The recall was first issued on October 14, 2025, and then reclassified to Class I on November 18. This is the most serious tier of product recall, indicating a situation where there is a reasonable probability that eating a product will cause serious health consequences or death. It's the U.S. Food & Drug Administration's highest level of urgency.

The product was distributed to Publix stores in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Florida, except for stores in Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Tampa, and Sarasota. This recall does not impact Publix locations in Virginia and North Carolina.
