Last year, I made flour tortillas from scratch for the first time. I was blown away at how much better they were than store-bought tortillas. I have no idea how I went 35 years before trying homemade tortillas! My husband and kids were hooked, too, which led us to buy a tortilla press so we could make a lot of tortillas quickly.
That investment proved a bit premature because, within a week or so of buying our press, I discovered Tortilla Fresca's Uncooked Flour Tortillas at Costco. My family's Taco Tuesdays have never been better—or easier.

Why I Love Tortilla Fresca's Uncooked Flour Tortillas
Found in the refrigerated section of Costco near the deli meat and shredded cheeses, Tortilla Fresca Uncooked Flour Tortillas retail for around $10.50 for two 18-packs (which comes to roughly 29 cents each). What I love most about the tortillas is the amazing taste. They taste exactly like homemade flour tortillas but without the hassle of mixing, portioning, and rolling the dough yourself.
To heat one up, simply remove a tortilla from the package and cook it for 20 to 30 seconds per side in a hot, ungreased skillet. You'll be ready to eat fajitas in no time.
This product earns family bonus points because it’s convenient and healthy. Tortilla Fresca makes its flour tortillas with only five ingredients: organic wheat flour, filtered water, organic canola oil, sea salt, and organic cane sugar. I do wish they were made with something other than canola oil, but overall, they're about as good as it gets for a packaged convenience food.
How I Use the Uncooked Tortillas
We use these tortillas like we would any other brand of packaged tortillas. The key is adding a few minutes to your prep schedule to give you time to cook the tortillas. If I’m making a big batch for a family taco night, I’ll bust out my large griddle to cook two or three tortillas at a time. Otherwise, for small batches, using a nonstick or cast-iron skillet gets the job done in a matter of minutes.
Once cooked, we use the 10" tortillas for tacos, fajitas, enchiladas, quesadillas, and even baked chimichangas. The only thing they can’t do is make a Chipotle-sized burrito. That said, they make fantastic breakfast burritos filled with scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, and cheese.
I also love using them for wraps made with deli meat and fresh vegetables. For snacking, my kids like spreading a warm tortilla with peanut butter, then rolling it up with a drizzle of honey and sliced bananas.
How I Store Uncooked Tortillas
Whenever I buy these tortillas at Costco, I usually pop one 18-count package in the freezer and leave the other package in the refrigerator. Refrigerated tortillas last well over a week; just make sure the bag stays sealed so they don’t dry out. Frozen tortillas will stay fresh for three months or more.
To use, thaw completely in the refrigerator before cooking. I usually pull them the night before I need them, and they’re ready to go by morning.
