Cheez-Its Is Selling a “Holiday House” at Walmart, So I’ll Never Need Actual Gingerbread Again

When it comes to holiday traditions, every family is different. Some families artfully decorate Christmas sugar cookies with icing, others gather together to craft ornaments, and some go caroling or visit local Christmas lights to ring in the Christmas season.

One tradition I started when I had kids was having a family gingerbread house decorating contest. Some years we make the gingerbread from scratch, and other years, when we get caught up in the holiday rush, we rely on premade kits. This year is a kit year, so imagine my delight when I saw that Cheez-Its had a kit of its own.

What Is the Cheez-Its Holiday House?

You won’t find a single crumb of gingerbread. Instead, the Cheez-Its Holiday House Kit includes cheese-flavored house bricks to construct the main structure. Then, to decorate, you’ll find plenty of Cheez-Its crackers to make the shingles, windows, shutters, and doors for your savory holiday home. 

This kit isn’t just savory, however. You’ll still find a packet of white royal icing for “gluing” the house together and a pack of red and green decorating candies to add a bit of festive color to your cheesy display.

Why Are People Going Crazy Over This Kit?

I don’t know about you, but I often feel inundated by sweets around the holidays. A girl can only eat so many peanut butter blossoms and pieces of Christmas candy! The Cheez-Its Holiday House is a nice break from all the sugar, and honestly, I love Cheez-Its.

I built this kit with my two Cheez-Its-loving children, and they had so much fun. We did agree that the sweet icing was a bit of a strange choice, but if you’re into salty-sweet foods, you might be down for the combination. Otherwise, you could replace the icing with some canned Easy Cheese or a tub of cheddar cheese spread.

We decided to add other savory snacks to our kit (and I encourage you to do the same). We grabbed some Boursin cheese to make a snowman for the front yard, as well as pretzels, popcorn, Ritz Bits cheese crackers, and homemade party mix. The result was a festive celebration of all things cheesy, salty, and savory!
