The thought of waffles always brings a smile to my face—they remind me of special weekend brunches and hotel breakfasts I enjoyed as a kid. As an adult, I don’t even own a waffle iron yet, so when I want these morning treats, store-bought frozen waffles are my best bet.

Though there’s one brand I fondly recall from childhood—you can probably guess the brand—I wondered which one food professionals choose when they don’t feel like making waffles from scratch. To my surprise, they all mentioned the same brand.

The Best Frozen Waffles, According to Food Pros

According to these food pros, nothing beats the nostalgic brand I was alluding to above: Eggo Waffles.

Walk through the freezer section, and it's hard to miss that Eggo offers several flavors, so it’s not a surprise that everyone has a favorite. “A staple in my house growing up, either the classic or the chocolate chip waffles always do the trick,” says Rehm. She loves these waffles' crisp bite, sweet flavor, and satisfying chew that define a well-made waffle.

Brown adds, “I think these have the most authentic taste, and they tend to come out crispy more consistently than the other brands for me.”

Meanwhile, Marris loves Eggo’s homestyle variety. “They have that classic crisp, are super light and fluffy, soak up butter and syrup well, and brown evenly in my toaster,” she shares. Rehm is also a fan of heating the waffles in the toaster and serving them with a pat of butter and maple syrup.

Ideas for Serving Frozen Waffles

The food pros have plenty of creative ideas for dishing up these beloved waffles beyond just toasting.

“I really like to use frozen waffles as the ‘bread’ for my breakfast sandwiches—and I love to use them to make waffle ice cream sandwiches,” says Marris.

Rehm adds, “Growing up, I would make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on two Eggo waffles to have as breakfast on my way to the bus stop. As an adult, I now make Nashville hot fried chicken over waffles with some real maple syrup!”

Brown uses them to make toasted sandwiches in the panini press, as well as a delicious dessert. “I grew up in South Africa, where my favorite dessert was a fresh waffle topped with syrup and ice cream.”

Honorable Mention: Kodiak Cakes Power Waffles

  • The food pros I spoke to also love Kodiak Cakes Power Waffles.
  • “They’re high-protein, have a hearty texture that is still crispy on the outside, and a subtle vanilla flavor, making them great for a filling breakfast,” says Marris.
  • Rehm adds, “I like that these are thicker and contain whole wheat as well as some additional whey protein! As a bread baker by trade, I am always finding ways to sneak in more whole grains into my foods.”
