The Best Frozen Pizza You Can Buy (It’s Not DiGiorno)

This is hands-down the best pizza at the grocery store.

I’m no stranger to a frozen pizza. As a kid, they were a regular part of Friday nights; in college, they were practically their own food group. Now, as a mom, I always keep a pie or two in the freezer in case I need a low-effort dinner in a flash.

While I might splash out for a new brand on occasion, when I’m craving a good cheese pull and plenty of pepperoni, I always reach for a trusted frozen pizza: Screamin’ Sicilian.

Why Screamin’ Sicilian Is the Best Frozen Pizza

While it may sound like an oxymoron, I’d call Screamin’ Sicilian a premium frozen pizza brand. The pie, which is made by pizza powerhouse Palermo’s, is covered in thick-cut Wisconsin mozzarella and enough toppings that you don’t need to doctor it up (although you can always upgrade your frozen pizza). Every time I slice into this pie, I get a great cheese-pull moment—the stuff of dreams for every Midwesterner.

My go-to pick is the brand’s Mambo Italiano with pepperoni and meatballs, though a classic pepperoni or supreme occasionally hops into my shopping cart. I typically opt for the original crust since it gives that just-right balance of being thick enough for a carb-lover like myself, while being thin enough for a satisfying crispy bite.

When baked as directed, the crust is crunchy and holds up to the heft of toppings. I don’t even need to rely on this chef-approved frozen pizza trick.

The Kind of Pizza I Buy Most Often

This brand isn’t a one-size-fits-all pie. You can also find thick, Detroit-style pizzas, tavern-style, and thin and crispy options from Screamin’ Sicilian.

While I do like a thicker Detroit-style crust from time to time, and have grown to appreciate the thin tavern pizzas (think the pizza at your favorite dive bar but better), I return consistently to the brand’s original formula. It walks the line between thick and thin so well without ever being soggy.

Next time you’re in the frozen aisle at any grocery store, snag one of these pies and tell them I sent you—along with a whole host of other frozen pizza experts.
